University of Wisconsin Madison crest Carbon Model modeling carbon budgets in large terrestrial ecosystems

Carbon Data

The data behind Biome BGC is being prepared for open access, on the web and through services.

Large scale terrestrial ecosystem modeling depends on historical climate, land cover, and site data, and no single team collects all of it. Our plan is to make the data we use and produce available to browse in the browser and to query and reuse in your own programs through web services.

What the release will cover

  • Daily meteorological driver data for regional and global model runs.
  • Leaf area index and land cover inputs used as spatial drivers.
  • Site and stand information used to configure the model.
  • Documentation of provenance and terms for reuse.

Until the data service is public, requests can be directed to the team through the contact page. The need for accessible and interoperable data is discussed in the Data Considerations in Science blog note.
